Times are tough, I know. I’m Joseph Phillips, author of several leading books on project management. I’ve been teaching PMP Boot Camps, IT project management, and related topics since 1997. Teaching, consulting, and writing on project management has been very good to me – I’ve worked hard, but I’ve also been very fortunate. I’m thankful.

I have friends, relatives, and colleagues, however, that aren’t as fortunate. These good people have lost their jobs, seen their businesses evaporate, and are nearing the bottom of their financial, spiritual, and mental reserves. People are wondering how many resumes they will have to create to land employment, any employment. People are wondering how much they can do without to provide for their children. I know, and you know, that it’s like this everywhere.

So while politicians bicker, executives cash their bonuses, and thousands more line up for unemployment I’ve wondered what can I do? And how can I sell project management training for thousands of dollars to people that might be clipping coupons and saving pennies to make certain there’s food in the pantry?

The simple answer: I can’t. I can’t sell education to someone who doesn’t have the money to buy it. And I can’t stomach the thought of someone investing their needed money, in hopes of a project management certification, in hopes of a job. Hope is good, hope is needed, but you can’t eat hope. You can’t pay the bills with hope. You can’t live on hope.

So I’m contributing by sharing my PMP exam prep seminar online. Yes, the complete course is available absolutely free with no strings attached. While I still want to make a living and continue teaching project management, I believe this is a win-win for us all. Participants don’t have to spend thousands of dollars like some sites are charging for this material and I’m getting my name, my business, and books out there.

Would you like to help too? There are several things you can do, take your pick:

  • Share the news: email your colleagues, blast it on Twitter, and blog about our site
  • Get involved: add comments, advice, and links to other quality websites
  • Support our site: buy our PMP exam prep material from our sidebar to help offset our costs

Hello Joseph,

I live in Montreal, Canada and would like to thank you for this wonderful resource! I’ve been looking at getting this certification for a while as I believe it will make me more marketable in a very tough job market but, could not simply afford the expensive courses that cost in thousands of dollars and associated books that are quite costly too. I want to get this certification so I can move on and become a Project Manager for a bigger and better company. I found your website to be very informative and well-done being that I’m still quite “green” with all the terminologies associated with project management.

Do you suggest I read the PPMBOK® Guide—Fourth Edition before following the videos? How would you suggest I go about studying for the exam and how much time do you think I will need before writing the exam? Will you also post the notes as PDF documents that you present in your videos? Finally, do you think supplemental texts are required or is the PMBOK and videos sufficient? There are so many texts which are quite expensive out there promising success.

I would greatly appreciate any help our suggestions before I embark in your course. Thank you.

Thank you so much!

Steven

Steven – thank you for your comments! I hope you do pursue the PMP and it helps your career as it has so many others. It’s a tough exam, but it helps keep the value of the certification high.

I highly recommend my PMP Study Guide as your supplemental reading. You can find details on all my books here: http://instructing.com/books-ive-written-2/

You may want to go through these videos and read the corresponding PMBOK text as I’ve marked each video accordingly… but the PMBOK can be a challenging read sometimes.

Feel free to query with questions through comments as others may have the same thoughts. Best to you!

Dear Jim,

I have been studying for my PMP exam now for 2 weeks. I am getting really confused trying to find a single source to get me going. I stumbled across your site and I am going through you course. I was reading the Head First PMP book, about 4 chapters in, and 3 chapters in Andy’s Crowe’s book, as well as listening to the PMP prepcast. I just felt overwhelmed sticking with a source. I like your presentations, very organized and I like the tone of your voice and your BIO to back it up. I personally feel like I have landed on solid ground to help me pass the PMP exam now. And… I appreciate the offering!

Thanks, Brian! I hope you find the resource here helpful – keep going and chip away at the objectives. I know Crowe’s book is good, can’t vouch for the Heads-First book… of course I’m a big fan of the two books I’ve written for the PMP exam!

Best in your PMP endeavors!

Joseph,
You have lifted my spirits today. Thank you for making this available and giving us hope and a sense of value despite unemployment. I will find a way to repay you, will try to afford your materials, and will post this site now to my Meetup of 345 nonprofit professionals. Thank you again!

Suzanne, thank you for your comment! I hope you enjoy the videos and keep working towards your certification. I know how tough times are – for all of us – but we’ll get through this and be stronger, better, and smarter.

Thanks for sharing this site with your colleagues. Press on regardless,

Joseph Phillips

I can’t thank you enough for this resource. I will be sure to pass it on to the consulting firm I work for and encourage them to buy your product for my colleagues. I wish everyone in here understands that what you are providing for free, really cost thousands, but is valued at potential millions over ones career in PM. Providing support by buying the kit is the least we can do. I guarantee that there will be times when we can use it as reference while in the field.

Thanks again Mr. Phillips I go for my PMP Aug 3rd and It will all ride on what you are providing here.
