42 PMP Processes

There are five process groups that comprise the project management life cycle. Within these five process groups there are 42 project management processes. A process is an action that is designed to bring about a specific result, such as create the project charter, control pr quality, or estimate the project costs. Processes have inputs (information, documents, the results of other processes, and other details) that allow them to get started. And then processes have tools and techniques to actually complete the process. Finally, the result of the process create things called outputs.

While there are 42 project management processes you won’t need to use all of the processes on every project. Some projects, like large macro projects, may require the usage of all or most of the projects. Smaller projects, like move-add-change-delete projects, don’t use many of the processes. It’s up to the project manager to realize which project management processes should be utilized and to what depth.

For your PMP exam, however, you’ll be tested on all of the project management processes. This module will introduce you to the 42 processes and their characteristics. There are two videos for the PMP Exam Prep Module Two:

The quizzes on the 42 processes aren’t working properly. Some of the answers are incorrect (quiz 2), and some won’t operate (quiz 3). Just an FYI, appreciate the work.

Item 8 Quiz 2’s answer for the planning processes should be 20 and not 42! Thanks for this great resource.
